In a perfect world, you would keep all your natural teeth for your whole life. Unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world, and people do lose their teeth for various reasons. So much so that an estimated 40 million Americans are missing all of their teeth.
Thanks to today’s advanced techniques and materials, the cosmetic dentists at Dr. Patty Miami can create beautiful, natural-looking dentures that give you the confidence of an aesthetically balanced set of teeth that allow you to eat, laugh, and smile again.
A Life-Changing Decision
Missing teeth are not just a cosmetic issue; it also affects your ability to talk and limits the type of foods you can enjoy. And once you start to lose teeth, the jawbones that used to support them begin to deteriorate. Over time, this creates changes in your facial structure and causes an undesirable sunken, aged look.
Dentures give people who have lost their teeth an opportunity to live a happier, more comfortable life. Getting dentures can be a dramatic transformation that will instantly improve your appearance and make you look younger and more joyful. Full dentures can replace an entire arch of missing teeth and can be either removable or permanent. And partial dentures are used to replace one or several teeth.

Just Because You Wear Dentures, It Doesn’t Mean It Should Look Like You Do
While it’s true that dentures may not feel exactly like your natural teeth once did, technological advances allow us to create extremely comfortable dentures that look nothing like your grandpa’s old fake teeth.
Decades ago, the bases of dentures were made with a heat curing process that resulted in less than perfect results. These dentures were uncomfortable and had the risk of awkwardly slipping out at any time. Nowadays, we use injection-molded acrylic bases that eliminate warping and shrinkage. The result of this new technique is dentures that mold perfectly to your gums and stay put even while you are eating, drinking, or speaking.
Implant-Supported Dentures Vs. Removable Dentures
There are several types of dentures available. But the kind of denture that’s best for you will ultimately depend on your oral health status and lifestyle. At Dr. Patty Miami, we offer custom-made removable and implant-supported dentures.
Implant-supported dentures involve having [dental implants] placed into your jawbone. These implants, also called abutments, are little metal posts that hold and stabilize your denture into place.
Implant-retained dentures can either be clicked or screwed into position with the help of the abutments. They will be customized to fit perfectly into your mouth, and their main advantages are increased stability and improved chewing function.
Implant-supported dentures can be permanent, so only your dentist will be able to remove them during visits, or removable, which you will need to take out every night. Traditional removable dentures do not require implants. While these dentures can restore the appearance of your teeth and overall face, they are less comfortable than implant dentures and can create speech issues, like a lisp or clicking noises.

Shopping For The Perfect Denture
At Dr. Patty Miami, we use computer technology to make finding the perfect denture an easy and enjoyable experience. First, you are invited to browse an array of pink denture bases in various shades and styles. This will allow you to choose one that perfectly matches the color of your gums.
Then, you will pick out your new teeth. This is where you can have fun and even try out a different style! You may opt for larger, longer, or whiter teeth. You can also show us pictures of your old smile, so you can have your dentures look exactly like your natural teeth used to. Our goal is to design complete or partial dentures that make you feel like you and get you excited about smiling again.
When all or most of your teeth are removed, it can be a challenge to just go carry on with your life. Missing teeth can affect your self-esteem and hinder your ability to eat certain foods. And if you decide to get implant-supported dentures, you will not be able to wear them until your gums heal from implant surgery. This is where same-day implants can help.
Also known as immediate dentures, this restorative procedure allows you to walk out of our office with functional teeth the same day that your teeth are extracted. With same-day dentures, you don’t have to go a day without teeth, and they will help you adapt to your final set of dentures.
The Procedure For Same-Day Dentures
When you come to Dr. Patty Miami for same-day dentures, the first step is to meet with a cosmetic dentist to create a personalized treatment plan. This visit will include:
- Impressions of your mouth
- Pictures of your teeth and gums
Once this has been done and your results have been analyzed, you will be asked to come back for a follow-up appointment to fit you with your same-day dentures. During this appointment, an oral surgeon will perform any necessary tooth extractions and insert your new immediate dentures.
